Hawaiian Volcanic Clay · pH Balanced · Single Ingredient
Rare mineral-rich clay harvested in small batches from a remote mountain meadow on Maui. Naturally pH 5.5 — in harmony with your skin. Pure volcanic intention.
Where the Volcano
Meets the Sky
High on the slopes of Maui, where ancient basalt weathers through millennia of tropical rain and volcanic heat, something extraordinary forms in our family meadow.
The volcanic clay we harvest here is not found in any bulk shipment from a dry lakebed. It is rare, stratified, and alive with mineral complexity — allophane, imogolite, halloysite, and ferrihydritic iron compounds that give each batch its signature warm hue.
We harvest it by hand. In small batches. With intention and Aloha.
Not All Clay Is Created Equal
Most facial clays are single-mineral commodity powders mined en masse from alkaline dry lake beds. Maui Mask is something else entirely.
Human skin lives at pH 4.5–5.5. Many competing clay masks sit near pH 10 — a harsh alkaline environment that can strip your natural protective barrier.
Our Hawaiian volcanic clay contains allophane, imogolite, and halloysite — rare volcanic minerals almost never found in commercial skincare. The result is a silky smoothness no single-mineral clay can replicate.
The warm amber hues come from ferrihydritic iron compounds formed as weathered rutile and olivine from the basaltic parent rock oxidize over thousands of years of tropical weathering.
What Makes the Skin Feel So Different
The overwhelming response from people who try Maui Mask for the first time is always the same: their skin feels impossibly smooth. Silky. Alive. That feeling is the result of a rare mineral combination that forms naturally in volcanic soils found almost nowhere else on earth.
A rare tubular clay mineral found only in volcanic soils, halloysite provides exceptionally fine, gentle mechanical polishing at a microscopic level. It buffs away dull surface cells without aggression — leaving skin with a luminous smoothness that other clays simply cannot replicate.
An amorphous volcanic clay mineral with an extraordinary surface area at the nanoscale. This gives it remarkable capacity to draw impurities and excess oils from pores while remaining exceptionally gentle — never stripping, never disrupting your skin's natural balance.
One of the rarest minerals in commercial skincare, imogolite forms as nanoscale hollow tubes in young volcanic soils. Found in meaningful quantities only in select volcanic regions of the world — and in our meadow on Maui.
The warm amber hues of our clay come from hematite and goethite — iron oxide minerals formed as ancient basaltic rock oxidizes over millennia of tropical weathering. These natural pigments carry bio-available iron minerals and give each batch its signature color.
The gentlest of all clay minerals. Its fine platelet structure glides across skin, absorbing excess oil and surface debris while fully respecting your natural moisture barrier. Suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.
Unlike commercial bentonite clays mined from alkaline dry lake beds at pH 9–10, the bentonite in our volcanic clay exists at a naturally skin-friendly pH — delivering deep pore cleansing power without the harsh alkaline environment that disrupts your skin barrier.

Heal the Land.
Our family farm in Haiku sits on land degraded over decades by invasive species — primarily strawberry guava, one of Hawaii's most destructive plants, which chokes native ecosystems and prevents forest regeneration.
Every jar of Maui Mask sold funds our work to reverse that damage. We are actively converting this land into a productive regenerative farm — removing invasives, planting native koa and taro, establishing food forests, and introducing grazing animals to restore the soil.
The clay in your jar was pulled from this same meadow. The money you spend on it goes directly back into healing the land it came from. That is the full circle we are building — one jar, one tree, one acre at a time.
Strawberry guava and other invasive species are being cleared from our land — restoring space for native Hawaiian ecosystems to return.
Koa — sacred to Hawaiian culture — taro, and other native species are being established across the property, rebuilding the ecological heritage of the land.
Jackfruit, banana, papaya, sugarcane, and productive tree species are being planted in agroforestry systems — creating abundance for people and habitat for wildlife.
Grazing animals managed through rotational practices are rebuilding the nutrient capacity of the soil — the same soil that produces the rare volcanic clay in your jar.
The clay in your jar and the trees taking root on our land share the same source. Every purchase closes that circle.
